Description
They will pretty much eat anything - water invertebrates, crustaceans, small fish, ducklings … but they are also in danger being eaton by birds.
This Longfin Eel is from Centennial park which has about 11 ponds.
People think they just live there, but its actually wrong, they make amazing journey there .
Ruben Meerman discovers the astonishing journey these eels take to their breeding grounds - out into the Pacific Ocean and all the way to the Coral Sea!
An astonishing part of their story is that the eels happily living in these ponds will suddenly set off on a journey of a lifetime to breed and die.
And then the young have to come all the way back. They can even go over land for short distances when there isn't a water connection.
They move along stormwater channels and under the racecourse. Then they use the three golf courses, probably using some of the water courses there, to then slowly make their way down towards the airport and Botany Bay. Then all the way to Coral see.
I never new how mazing these eels really are and what amazing journey they take.
