Description
Start Of Darlinghurst Road At Kings Cross, just left of the famous Coke Sign. I took these shots from the Kings Cross Hotel (across the road from coke sign), which has about 5 levels I think, and each levels usually plays different music for you to dance, except the top floor which is more like a balcony .
Kings Cross sleazy reputation been round for a long time ! For decadesit has been a red light district with both female and male prostitutes, with many strip joints, bars and restaurants, and is a center for Sydney night life.
Personally I have ever only been to Kings Cross Hotel which is also on corner of William street, and which does not have any strip shows like the other part of the Cross. Its reputation for night life was enhanced during World War Two and during the Vietnam War when United States servicemen on leave made a beeline for "The Cross" looking for a "good" night out.
More recently it has become notorious for nighttime violence, with drunks fighting outside pubs and bars. This has led to "lockout laws", banning admission to clubs after 1.30 am.
To walk through this iconic and yet sleazy street is probably lot safer during a day.
Cross is also known for drugs.
