Description
Soren Larsen Sailing Past City Of Sydney during International Navy Fleet Review , 5th of October 2013.
In late 2011, she was purchased by Sydney Harbour Tallships, a family owned Australian business.
Tall ships are rare these days. To keep them sailing millions of dollars is invested in their upkeep.
She arrived back in UK base in Gloucester in October 1992, the ship undertook a very major refit. The old accommodation deck and cabins were gutted out, and the ship reballasted with iron to make room for additional holding tanks and storage below decks. In dry dock an 85 foot steel keel girder fitted below the hull which was recaulked and repainted.English oak was laid for the new sole and new two and four berth cabins built. English walnut and Canadian Elm paneling adorn the new saloon and library and brass ship’s lamps enhance her traditional feel. In order to increase space and comfort below the capacity for voyage trainee was reduced to 22. The masts and spars were sent down and revarnished and the sails and rigging refurbished. During the English summer of 1993 she sailed around Britain and Europe, taking part in the Cutty Sark Tallships Race across the North Sea.
