Description
Leptospermum petersonii (or Leptospermum citratum), lemon-scented teatree is a tall shrub to small tree, growing to a maximum of 5 metres, Australian native shrub. Lemon-scented tea tree is well known as a garden plant, popular for its scent and attractiveness. It is fast growing and can be kept to shrub height by pruning. The ability to be pruned regularly also makes it well-suited for hedges, windbreaks and harvesting for distilled essential oils.
When early settlers run out of tea, they use Tee tree plants instead, I guess that's how this shrub got its name.
These trees at North Head Sydney near Fairfax walk are low and twisted because of the poor heathland soil and battering winds. More inland the trees are much taller.
