Dame Edna Everage wax figure in Sydney Madame Tussauds wax museum in Sydney.
Who could have guessed that a suburban housewife from Moonee Ponds would become the gigastar Dame Edna Everage is today?
Created by satirist Barry Humphries AO, CBE in 1955, even he was taken by surprise at her popularity.
Dame Edna Everage is a character known for her lilac-coloured or "wisteria hue" hair and cat eye glasses or "face furniture", her favourite flower, the gladiolus ("gladdies") and her boisterous greeting: "Hello, Possums!"
Dame Edna is praised for her insights into her homeland. When asked why Australians are so good at sport she commented: "Good food and diet; open air life; juicy steaks; sunshine — and the total absence of any kind of intellectual distraction"
As Dame Edna, Humphries has written several books including an autobiography, My Gorgeous Life, appeared in several films and hosted several television shows (on which Humphries has also appeared as himself and other alter-egos).

Wow, such a colorful costume, and she looks like a very delightfully colorful character as well! Super shot, Miroslava! L/F
