San Diego : Cuyamaca Rancho State Park
I walked around Lake Cuyamaca following winter's final snow. Morning ice blanketing trails had already begun melting as clouds parted for noon sun, dissolving to thin streamlets wandering amongst a scent of fresh mud and grass.
In shade I found a small patch of snow with this decaying leaf resting on it. Given heavy storms throughout the season it was remarkably preserved, an intricate network of veins on full display. I was amazed that something so fragile could maintain such elegance.
