Description
White Lipped Tree Frogs (also called Giant Tree Frog) are the largest tree frog in the world. They reach lengths between 10 and 14 cms (4 - 5.5 inches) and they can live for over 10 years in the wild.
Ranging in colour from pure green to greenish-brown or pale brown, it has a brilliant white stripe that runs along its lower jaw and the side of its head. During the breeding season some have a salmon-pink coloration on their arms and legs. The tadpoles are dark brown with a single cream stripe on each side of the head, body and tail.
The mating call of the white-lipped treefrog resembles the barking of a large dog.
This species is listed as Least Concern in their native Queensland (Nature Conservation Act 1992) and it is ranked as a low priority under the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection .
It is kept as a pet; but in Australia, it may be kept in captivity only with an appropriate permit, and getting permits is pretty tough here !!
This pic was taken in Wildlife sanctuary at Darling harbour !
